NDSU indoor track & field boys’ champs

The Lisbon Broncos boys’ and girls’ track and field teams got off to a strong start with their performances at the annual NDSU State Indoor on Saturday, March 29. The Bronco boys’ team raced to a 25.5 win over runner-up Langdon, while the LHS girls’ squad finished in second place, one point ahead of state power, Hazen. 

Lisbon athletes claimed four first place finishes. Ashley Berg in the 60 hurdles, Blake Mallett in the 400 dash, Veronica Munkeby in the high jump, and the 800-relay squad of Ricky Roman, Elliott Olerud, Blake Mallett, and Adam Coykendall all earned gold batons for their outstanding performances.

Lisbon competed at the Randy Huether Indoor meet on Thursday, April 3, and the Broncos open their outdoor season today at the LHS track and field complex. This is the first meet in which any individual athlete or relay may qualify for the state track and field meet.

The Lisbon boys and girls are the defending Region 1 champs. The girls have won two straight regional crowns while the boys’ squad has won 14 in a row, and 27 in the last 30 years.
