Girls take 2nd…

Bronco boys are Huether Champs

by Joe Howell

The Lisbon boy’s track team easily won the 16th Annual Lisbon Randy Huether track and field meet held in Wahpeton on Thursday, April 3.  Joining the Broncos in the winning circle for the second straight week were the Milnor-Wyndmere-Lidgerwood girl’s team.

MWL and the Broncos had previously won the NDSU state indoor meet.

The Broncos won four individual titles as they cruised to their title and added quality depth for their fourth straight Huether title.   The Lisbon boys have won 14 of the 16 Huether Indoor meets.

The Broncos and Sisseton dominated the boy’s division as the two teams finished with 136 and 130 points.  Lisbon scored 19 points in the pole vault and again in the 2-mile run to cement their victory.         Nathan Dykema - 60 hurdles, Logan Carlblom - high jump, Ricky Roman - pole vault, and Anthony Finstad - 2-mile run brought home first place trophies for LHS.

Ashley Berg in the 60 hurdles and long jump, and Veronica Munkeby in the high jump, were the Bronco girls individual champions.

In the girls’ division, MWL survived as the Huether champs point total of 78 edged Lisbon’s 69.  Just behind the two District 1 and Region 1 powers were:  Rosholt-Fairmount 64, Wadena Deer Creek 63, and Sisseton with 62.

MVP’s of the meet were: Trent Nelson, Sisseton, and Cheri Boyer, MWL.

The Broncos American Legion Meet scheduled in Lisbon on April 7 was cancelled due to snow.
