Bronco Golf Teams each finish third in tourneys
The defending state champion Oak Grove boys’ golf team placed three in the top four as they won the Lisbon invitational on Monday, April 21, at the Bissell Golf Course. Corey Sampson, Oak Grove, won medalist honors with his score of 79 edging teammate, Jody Severson by just one stroke.
Senior Cam Thomspson was Lisbon’s lone top 10 finisher as Thompson recorded a score of 88 and finished in 8th place.
Kindred is second to Oak Grove in the team race as the two Region 2 schools have long been powers in area golf.
Bronco Coach Marc Strahm was visibly happy with the effort and the progress that his team has made. Strahm commented after the meet. “We showed nice improvement and we have set high goals for the regional tournaments. Sargent County (Sargent Central and North Sargent) has a nice squad and it looks like the two of us will bang heads all season.”
“Cam Thompson had a nice round and earned his top 10 finish. An 88 in the cold and rain was very impressive and Thompson and his teammates are only going to get better.”

This was one of four district tournaments that will be held this spring and the top five golfers by average score at these tournaments will earn all district honors.
Sargent County and Lidgerwood-Hankinson-Fairmount will be tough for any of the area golf teams to handle as these two teams each had three athletes in the top six.
Bronco Coach Sherri Surerus had these comments after the tournament. “All of our golfers improved from the last tournament and it was most definitely COLD and MISERABLE. We are looking forward to nicer weather and lower golf scores.”
