Dorothy Thoreson
The funeral service for Dorothy Thoreson, 80, Valley City, N.D., formerly of Nome, N.D., was held Saturday, May 3, 2008, in Waldheim Lutheran Church, rural Kathryn, N.D. Burial was in Memory Gardens near Valley City. She died Tuesday, April 29, 2008, at her home in Bridgeview Estates under the care of her family and Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Dorothy Loraine Reberg was born on March 15, 1928 in rural Hastings, N.D., the daughter of Ole and Ellen (Barman) Reberg. She grew up in the Hastings area and was baptized and confirmed at Spring Creek Lutheran Church. She attended school in Hastings, graduating in 1945.
On July 29, 1945, she was united in marriage to Donald Thoreson at the parsonage in Fort Ransom, N.D. They made their home near Nome, N.D., where they farmed until moving to Valley City, N.D. in January of 2008.
She was a member of Waldheim Lutheran Church and the WELCA there. She had a love for gardening, canning, making blankets for her grandchildren, and tending to her flowers. Dorothy will always be remembered for having a home open to family and friends. Her coffee pot was always full, cookies were always ready to be served, and she always had a welcoming smile to share with all.
Dorothy is survived by her husband, Donald, of Valley City; sons, Dale (Linda) of Allison, Iowa, Chuck (Debbie) of Fort Ransom, Ron (Jan) of Fingal, N.D., Dave (Cindy) of Nome, Marlin (Laura) of Grand Forks, N.D., and Jeff (Cindy) of Fingal; daughters, Marge Henry of Leadville, Colo., Marlene (Jeff) Dreier of Elbow Lake, Minn., and Julie (Allen) Anderson of Crookston, Minn.; a daughter-in-law, Judy Thoreson of Fingal; 24 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; brothers, Erling (Norlene) Reberg of Kathryn, N.D., and Gerald (Coral) Reberg of Valley City; a sister, Violet (Earl) McAllister of Oriska, N.D.; a sister-in-law, Lenny Reberg of Moorhead, Minn.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, LeRoy; and a brother, Art.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Oliver-Nathan Funeral Chapel, Valley City.
