Grant applications for the new Lisbon Beautification Project are available from the Civic and Commerce office at Southeast Cellular at 416 Main Street in Lisbon.
The intent is to brighten up store fronts or backs to make them more curb appealing. Lisbon has community pride. This is one way of showing it and drawing more people to stop in Lisbon.
The project is for businesses in the city limits of Lisbon to apply for a type of matching grant to improve the outside appearance of their buildings. Applicants may ask for any amount they need up to $1,500. The business must match or exceed the amount asked for in the grant application. Materials will be covered by grant money but labor will not. According to a report at the weekly construction meeting held on Tuesday morning, July 29, the paving crew is about 75 percent done with the first lift on Lisbon streets. A little paving still needs to be done on Maple and Prospect Streets, as well as in the Bohlken’s Addition and the extensions to Third and Seventh Avenues. A second lift will then need to be added on the streets involved in the current project.
According to Tracy Esslinger, Moore Engineering, the contractor is ahead of schedule. The sewer and water replacement portions of the project are done, the concrete work is very close to completion, and they are hoping to have the paving completed by the middle of August. There is still some miscellaneous cleanup which needs to be done, such as backfilling behind new curbs and seeding grass.
