*The Kindred High School Hall of Fame inducted three this year. On October 10, Greg Jerlow, Oswald Twedt, and John Nellermoe, Jr. were selected to be a part of the third annual class.
Jerlow coached football, basketball, wrestling and golf at Kindred for 23 years before dying of cancer in the spring of 2001.
Nellermoe was a three sport star for Kindred and played baseball and football at Concordia.
He is a professor at Texas Lutheran and has been their golf coach for the past 13 years.
Twedt was a four sport letterwinner for the Vikings and played basketball NDSU. The Bison were NCC champs during Twedt’s playing days.
*Nathan Horgeshimer ran his first cross country meet of the season for Jamestown College on Friday, October 3. Dickinson State dominated the men’s division and the Jimmies won the girl’s side.
*The Moorhead boys and White Bear Lake girls cross country teams won the Alexander cross country meet. The Spuds boys team is having a dominating season.
*Kidder County ( Steele) won the Bismarck Shilo Christian volleyball tournament.
*Standing Rock High School of Fort Yates won the Lakota Nation volleyball tournament.
*Harvey won the Washburn volleyball tournament.
*Former Sargent Central coach and North Sargent principal is the new superindent at Washburn Public Schools. Rinas has been at Hazelton-Moffitt-Braddock the last few years.
*Grand Forks Red River won their 11th straight boy’s tennis tournament.
*2008 Hazen graduate, Brian Sorenson has changed schools moving from UND to Minot State University. Sorenson was the Sioux’s number one football recruit for this freshman class.
Sorenson contracted colitis and wanted to be closer to home while his doctors and he fight to control this disease.
Sorenson helped lead Hazen to back to back state boy’s track titles in his junior and senior seasons.
Younger brother, Brent is the quarterback for the 6-1 Hazen football team.
*Stephan-Argyle won their unbelievable 73rd straight game with a convincing 16-0 win over number 2 Kittson County Central in Minnesota Nine Man football.
In South Dakota, #4 Sisseton buried Britton-Hecla 47-0 and #1 9AA Ipswich defeated #5 Langford-Roslyn 32-12.
*MayPortCG lost to the Broncos 33-19 in the first game of the season for these two schools. The Patriots also lost their second game before reeling off four straight wins including their first three Region 2A contests.

Region 1A
Lisbon 7 Linton HMB 0; Maple Valley-Enderlin 13 Kindred 6; Milnor-North Sargent 36 LaMoure LM 0. As a result of MVE’s win over Kindred the four teams from Region 1A that have qualified for the play-offs has been established. Linton HMB, Lisbon, Milnor-North Sargent, and Maple Valley-Enderlin are in and these four teams will square off in some fashion on Saturday, October 24.
The quarterfinal game of the play-offs will feature the two winners from the October 24 game one week later.
*1A Familiar names are the driving force behind #1 Velva’s success. Josh and Jordan Weidler and Collin Kittleson are three of the Aggies big guns. Velva 54 New Rockford-Sheyenne 0; Harvey 45 DLB 0; New Salem-Glen Ullin handed Beach their first loss of the season by a score of 48-0.

*AA Valley City remained unbeaten with a 34-14 win over Rugby; #1 Devils Lake 35 Central Cass 7,Hazen 37 Dickinson Trinity 22, Fargo Oak Grove Lutheran 28 Grafton 8.
*AAA Fargo South and Bismarck remained on top of the East and West Regions. Fargo South hammered Grand Forks Red River 42-20 and Bismarck buried Mandan 41-0.
Fargo North held off #3 Wahpeton 14-7.
*Josh Hagen of Oakes and Evan Gross of Napoleon GS continued their season of big number games.
Hagen rushed for 210 yards, scored 5 touchdowns, kicked two PAT’s and scored on a two point PAT.
Gross ran for 236 yards and was on the receiving end of another 89 yards and scored 6 touchdowns.
*Nine Man games are putting up higher scores than most years as the offenses are dominating. Strausburg-Zeeland won their first game of the season over Sargent Central 24-6, Wells County 53 North Central Benson 0, Napoleon GS 63 Ellendale 16, Richardton-Taylor 54 Bismarck Shilo Christian 0, Mott-Regent 64 Wilton – Wing 0, Divide County 58 Surrey 28, Williams County 42 Parshall White Shield 6, Wyndmere 46- Griggs County 18, St. John 58 Maddock 20, Central McLean 48 Heart River 6, Oakes 41 South Border 12
*Williston Rob Heen Cross Country Meet team champions were the Williston boys and Dickinson girls. Heen was an outstanding runner for the Coyotes and he is the cross country coach at Iowa State.
The New Town boys team finished in fourth place.
*Sisseton Cross Country Meet on Thursday, October 2.
*Ben Schultz of Brandon Valley placed 14th with his time of 17:14 at the Watertown Cross Country Meet on October 2. Ben is the son of Mike and Kelly Schultz and the grandson of Bob and Lois Schultz.
*Groton High School graduate, Shannon Daly has signed to play pro basketball in Sweden. Daly led the USD women’s team to a NCAA II runnerup finish last year.
*Bismarck won the boy’s and girl’s triangular cross country meet with Fargo South and Jamestown.
*Zach Wentz of Bismarck was listed in Sports Illustrated Faces of the Crowd for his American Legion baseball summer. Wentz is a sophomore at NDSU.
*The Ralph surpassed the 3 million attendance mark on October 1. Englestad Arena first opened in October 5 of 2001.
*Mountain lions have been sighted in many areas of the state and the latest was in the Devils Lake area. On a ranch six miles north of Devils Lake, a mountain lion is being blamed for attacking a herd of cattle. The ranch is near Sweetwater Lake and the Game and Fish Department is looking into the attack
*Sioux Falls Washington and Sioux Falls Christian won the boy’s Class AA and A state golf titles.
*Fargo Shanley finished as the state runnerup at the ND state Class A golf championship. Shanley was the two time defending state champions.
Minot won this years state title.
*UND’s Chad Mustard is back again in the NFL as a Denver Bronco. Mustard plays tight end.
*Aberdeen Central’s Taylor Mehhalf signed as a kicker with the New Orleans Saints. Mehhalf was the University of Wisconsin’s kicker of the past four years. The Saints Martin Gramatica was cut by the Saints after their loss to the Vikings.
*District 1 volleyball scores from October 7: Lisbon 3 Milnor 0; CTF 3 Oakes 2: Hankinson 3 North Sargent 0; Wyndmere 3 Sargent Central 0; and in a non-league match Lidgerwood won.
*If you are going to attend this year’s state volleyball tournament in Minot, keep an eye on the West Fargo Packers. The Pack defeated Red River 3-1 in a battle of unbeaten squads in the EDC.
