Street paving scheduled as part of the second phase of Lisbon’s water/sewer/street improvement project has been completed by Bituminous Paving, Inc. of Ortonville, MN. However, work is still continuing on FEMA street repair projects. It is hoped that those projects will be able to return flood-ravaged streets to driveable condition before winter sets in.
Bids were opened on the FEMA portion of the street repair in late September and bids were awarded to Mark Sand and Gravel Co., Fergus Falls, MN, at the October 5 meeting of the city council.
Randy Seelig, city superintendent, reported on Monday, October 26, that milling of the portions of the streets written up on FEMA worksheets was being done and he expected the crew to be picking up the millings, doing the compaction, and paving behind it by Wednesday, November 4, weather permitting. The 2009 state track and field cross country meet will be remembered for the rainy, muddy, and slippery conditions that it presented to the teams and athletes on Saturday, October 24. “Our kids loved running in the muck,” commented Bronco Coach Joe Kern.
Just one week after finishing sixth at the East Region, the Bronco boys had a nice effort and placed tenth at the state meet. Two state-ranked squads, Mandaree and Bowman County, finished behind the Broncos.
Rugby snapped New Town’s five-year reign atop the B boys’ stand with a team effort. The Panther top five runners placed 8, 9, 13, 14, and 20 for their team score of 64 points. Rugby’s first five in the top 20 to compensate for New Town’s top three finishers in places 1, 3, and 7. New Town led 11 to 30 after the top three runners from each squad crossed the finish line. However, the team score in cross country is made up of the top five runners and the 4th and 5th Brave runners to cross the finish line finished in 35 and 47 for their total of 93.
Like Rugby, it was the first team cross country championship in school history for Watford City. The Wolves finished ahead of Griggs County 82-109 despite trailing after the first three runners from each school finished. Read the rest of this entry »

Lisbon played in Dickinson on Saturday, October 31 against Dickinson Trinity. Trinity’s Titans share their “home field” with both the Dickinson Midgets and Dickinson State University.
Randy Gordon has been the head coach of the Titans since the fall of 1986 when the former Dickinson State linebacker resigned from Killdeer High to take over the reigns at Dickinson Trinity. Gordon does not have the longest tenure on the football staff, as offensive coordinator and boy’s basketball coach, Gregg Grinsteinner has run the offense since 1982. Read the rest of this entry »

The Broncos and Central Cass each needed a match after having a week or more off from competition. In fact the Broncos last match was at Fairmount on Thursday, Oct. 15.
It was Senior Night in Casselton and the Squirrels sent their fans home happy after a hard fought 3-2 victory.
Central Cass, despite three straight Region 1 championships by the Broncos, has been the measuring stick in this area for the past two decades in volleyball. The Squirrels had throttled Lisbon in two previous matches in tournaments in Valley City and DLB. Coach Amy Lyons and her Broncos were not looking for a moral victory, however, and after dropping a tight contest to CC, the Broncos realized there is still a gap between the two teams.
The Squirrels broke out on top with a late rally in game 1 to take a 25-22 victory. Lisbon suffered through an erratic serving offense in games 1, 2, and 3 and Central Cass jumped on the opportunity to build leads on the Broncos as a result of the service errors. Read the rest of this entry »

On November 10th, 1979 he married Gaye Lynn Weisgram and they moved to the family farm. When his father retired in 1982 he took over the farming operation.
Dan was passionate about farming and loved every aspect of it. Throughout the years Dan was active in almost every farming organization there was. He was a member of the ND Barley Council where he served as district III director from 1993-1999, vice-chairman from 1994-1996 and chairman from 1996-1998. Dan’s full circle of life included involvement in his beloved community of Lisbon. As a young man, he loved to race Stock cars and was an excellent mechanic. He was highly respected and sought after for his common sense and wisdom. He enjoyed participation in the Lisbon Jaycees, Lisbon Dollars for Scholars, and most importantly his life-long membership and involvement of Lisbon’s First Baptist Church.
Although his chosen career was important, it paled in comparison to his love and devotion to his wife, children and grandchildren. Nothing made him happier than spending his free time attending their games, snowmobiling, go-carting, camping or taking them to special places and events.
