Lester Shiffner

Funeral services for Lester G. Schiffner, 83, Lisbon, were held March 29, 2011 at the North Dakota Veterans Home in Lisbon.  Rev. David Killeen officiated. Lester passed away on March 25, 2011.
Lester Schiffner, son of Jacob and Amelia (Arndt) Schiffner, was born Aug. 10, 1928 in Elliott Township. He grew up in rural Englevale and attended school there.
He spent four years in the US Navy and following his service he worked on a military base in Igloo, SD as a demolitions expert deactivating live munitions.  It was during this time that he met and married Mary L. Peters on Oct. 15, 1954 in Igloo, SD. They moved to Englevale in 1965. In 1969 they moved to Elliott where he worked at the Elliott Elevator.  They moved to Lisbon in 1975 and he worked at the Buttzville Elevator.  In 1980 they moved to Stirum where he worked at the elevator and for an area farmer. They later returned to Lisbon.
Family was very important to Lester. His grandchildren were his pride and joy. Lester enjoyed spending time with his family and his many friends.
Lester is survived by a son, Marty (Selene), Hauchuca City, AZ, a daughter, Rhanda (Greg) Anderson, Savage, MN; four grandchildren, Jeniffer Schiffner, Melony Schiffner, Samantha Seelig, and Jayce Seelig; a brother, Robert, Hermiston, OR.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary (Oct. 18, 2009), his parents, Jacob and Amelia (Arndt) Schiffner, sisters, Martha Maher and Edith Weber, brothers, Herman, Jack, Albert, Henry, Walter, William, Theodore (Bud) and George.
Pallbearers for the funeral were Jayce Seelig, Jerry Seelig, Dean Seelig, Duane Hedland, Lester Schwab and Wayne Jacobson.
Special music was provided by Gary and Diana Barta.
Interment at Oakwood Cemetery, Lisbon.
Armstrong Funeral Home, Lisbon, was in charge of arrangements.
