Frances Louden

Funeral services for Frances May Louden will be held on Monday, May 23, at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lisbon.  Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery, Lisbon, following the church service. Frances passed away March 7, 2011 at Sanford Medical Center in Mayville.

Frances was born Feb. 27, 1920 in rural Fort Ransom, to Deodor A. and Maria Caroline Moxness Mickelson. The family lived on farms in Ransom and Sargent Counties before moving to Lisbon in 1929. Frances graduated from Lisbon High School in 1938.  She was employed at the Ransom County Courthouse and was also an operator for Northwestern Bell Telephone. She attended business school at the State College of Science in Wahpeton and was subsequently employed by the college in the offices of the Trade School, the Registrar, and the President.

In 1943, Frances was married to Quinton Conant; they moved to Wyandotte MI upon his return from service in the Pacific in 1945.  She returned with her daughter, Sandra, to Lisbon in 1947, where she was employed as office manager at Grandadam Truck Lines until her marriage to Millard Louden in 1951. From then until their retirement in 1987, Frances assisted Millard as clerk and bookkeeper at Louden Electric. Their daughter, Janice Elaine, was born in 1957.  Frances resided in Lisbon until 2008, when she moved to Luther Memorial Home and then to her apartment at Sun Center South, both in Mayville, where Janice was her frequent visitor and helper.

Frances was a member of Trinity Lutheran church in Lisbon, where she taught Sunday School for many years and was active in ELCW.  She was also a leader in Camp Fire Girls, worked with the Lisbon High School Band and Choir Mothers, and was a life member of Post 3363 VFW Auxiliary.  Frances devoted much time to helping her daughters  progress in school and music, sewed and knitted garments for them and later for grandchildren, and baked sugar cookies which were enjoyed by all of them.  She also traveled to many places around the country with Millard in their camper.

Frances was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Millard; her brother, Ernest Mickelson; and sisters Mildred Mickelson, Dorothy Gefroh, and Edna Williams.

She is survived by her sister, Viola Berg, Grand Junction, CO; her daughters, Sandra (Ben) Sheppard, Casper, WY, and Janice (John) Christiansen, Portland, ND; grandchildren Jennifer Sheppard (Gavin) Mendeck, League City TX, Jessica Sheppard (Patrick) Weiss, Casper, WY, and Jason Sheppard, Marion, IL; and great-grandchildren Carina, Drake, and Eleanor Mendeck, and Caroline and Jackson Weiss.  Frances is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews, and their children and grandchildren.
