Lorraine Black

Lorraine Dorothy Elvina Weigelt Schossow Black, 84, of Enderlin, formerly Sheldon, passed away Monday, Jan. 31, 2011 at Maryhill Manor, Enderlin.

She was born March 17, 1926 in Wheatland, the daughter of Henry and Wilma Weigelt.

She married Robert A. Schossow on March 24, 1947 in Embden. He preceded her in death on Sept. 1, 1952. She later married Curtis R. Black on Jan.5, 1954 in Sheldon.  

She is survived by children Karen (Glen) Fritz, Frankfort, SD, Carl (Crystal) Schossow, Saucier, MS, Deborah (Leo) Bratland, Danville, IL, and Rick (Sandy) Black, Sheldon; sisters  Florence (Art) Tweten, Eveleth, MN, Wilma (Robert) Gregorich, Eveleth, MN, and Margaret (Clarence) Neal, Smyrna, TN; grandchildren Kristina (Jeff) Nelson,  Marc (Melissa) Fritz, Autumn (Billie) Amey, Charles Schossow, Jill (Ben) Weinberger, Erik (Shy) Bratland, Cassidy Black, and Blaine Black; great-grandchildren  Whitney Nelson, Taylor Nelson, Brody Nelson, Katie Fritz, Missy Fritz, Tanner Fritz, Robert Amey, Brittney Amey, Ryan Amey, Kristina Amey, Thomas Amey, Gemma Weinberger.

She was preceded in death by her parents, son Dennis Schossow, siblings Herbert Weigelt, Dale Weigelt, Glen Weigelt, Marvin Weigelt, Clifford Weigelt, Herman Weigelt, Luella Knaffla, Joe Harriman and Albert Harriman.

Lorraine was a longtime manager of Peoples and Enderlin State Bank, Sheldon station. Her many other jobs included being a cook at Sheldon School, H & R Block, Sheldon Cemetery caretaker, and Kelsen’s Bakery.

She loved gardening, jigsaw and crossword puzzles, crocheting and knitting, playing piano and organ, and was a wonderful cook.  She was well known for her wonderful lefse making. She loved spending time with her family.

Lorraine was a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She was also a member of the Eastern Star, and the United Methodist Church.

A Celebration of Life was held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 21, 2011 at United Methodist Church, Sheldon, with Pastor Michael Ward officiating.

Burial will be at the Sheldon Cemetery.

Armstrong Funeral Home, Enderlin is in charge of arrangements.
