Bill was born in Lisbon, ND on Feb. 5, 1922, the son of the late William E. and Beulah K. (Armacost) Chisman. He and his wife, Dorothy, were married May 15, 1948 in Elgin, IL, and she survives.
He was a Lieutenant, Junior Grade, in the United States Navy, serving during World War II. He ended his military service as the Executive Officer of LST 883 in the Pacific.
He attended North Dakota State University prior to WWII and was a graduate of Purdue University in Lafayette, IN following the war.
Bill was a Real Estate Broker in Lisbon and Houston, TX before retiring in 1987. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Lisbon and a member of the Bartholomew County (Indiana) Genealogical Society. He was a former member of Kiwanis International and Toastmasters. He was a long-time member of the Lisbon City Council and served as Treasurer of the Ransom County Fair Board for many years. After his retirement in Houston, he volunteered with the Spring Branch Neighborhood Patrol and the local Food Bank.
A memorial service celebrating the life of Mr. Chisman was held on Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2011 at Hathaway-Myers Chapel on Pearl St., Columbus, Dr. William Griffith officiating. Military honors were performed by members of the Bartholomew County Veterans Color Guard.
Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Lisbon.

Surviving with his wife of 63 years, Dorothy, are his children William III (Billie), Mary (Larry) and Jane (Blake), and his grandchildren William IV, Michael, Kate, Luke and Angel (Tony), and great-grandchild Katelyn. He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Nancy, and his siblings Lyman, Uarda and Beulah.
