Leo Lyons

Leo Aloysius Lyons, 57, passed away Friday, Dec. 16, 2011 in Sanford Hospital, Fargo after a courageous two year battle with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS).

Leo was born Feb. 24, 1954 to William and Doris (Froemke) Lyons in Lisbon. He was one of nine children. Leo attended St. Aloysius Catholic School in Lisbon through the eighth grade and then attended Lisbon High School where he graduated in 1973.  During his high school days, Leo worked for his older brothers on the farm they had taken over following their father’s death.  From 1973-1975 he attended NDSSS in Wahpeton, where he studied automotive mechanics and worked for local farmers. In his free time he enjoyed hobbies such as racing, snowmobiling, and spending time with his friends.

On Sept. 24, 1977 he married the love of his life, Barbara Ann Jordheim of McLeod. By1982, their family grew to include three sons: Trevor, Ryan, and Nathan.  After marriage, Leo farmed with a couple of his brothers, helped operate a dairy farm with a few brothers, and in 1995 started farming on his own with his wife and eventually incorporated his three sons. Leo was an active and dedicated member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Lisbon and was also involved in the Knights of Columbus, served as a Township Supervisor, and was a member of the Lisbon Eagles Club.  In March 2011, Leo was honorably named the 2011 Agriculturalist of the Year at the annual Ransom County Crops and Livestock Association Banquet.

In the last seven years of his life, Leo spent a lot of his time being an amazing Grandpa and loving every minute of it.  He was adored by his four grandchildren, and in Leo’s eyes, they were absolutely perfect and could do no wrong. Leo will always have a special place in their hearts.
